Most everyone is aware of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, but some satellite images make it difficult to view the true extent of the oil spill. However, I was reading the news today and came upon this picture...

This image was obtained by the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) instrument aboard NASA's Terra spacecraft on May 17, 2010. The image is a false-color image created by combining data from the red band of an angled camera, where the oil appeared dark, with the blue and green bands of a vertical-viewing camera, where the oil appeared bright. The result enables the viewer to see the full extend of the oil spill which is typically difficult to discern from other satellite images.

The red symbol indicates the former location of the drilling platform. The white arrow points to a plume of smoke, most likely from a controlled burn of oil collected on the surface.

Somehow my website has conquered the search engines (the ones that matter). If you do a Yahoo search for the term "supernate", my site comes up as #1, a Google search for the same term ranks my site at #2. I'm not sure how this happened, I didn't register supernate.net with Google, Yahoo, or any other search engine since I made this site for my family and friends and couldn't care less if anyone else ever visits it. I've broken every search engine optimization (SEO) rule usually touted in SEO guides, I don't use valid HTML or CSS, I use javascript for my menu, I don't have metadata tags in most of my webpages, and I use tables. Frankly, the only thing I did was use a "robots.txt" file and a DOCTYPE.

Some of you have asked me to repost this...

For those of you not familiar with the spoof page above, I made it to trick a couple of my Republican friends. I ripped off CNN's code, made this article from it, and created a subdomain to supernate.net called "cnn.com.cgi.queryframe938290834.politics.US.etc.etc.etc" that hosted this webpage. Then I emailed them the link (disguised as a CNN link) as "proof" that Bush had suddenly changed his mind about global warming. Since they're Republicans and they don"t know anything about technology, science, or the real world much less subdomains, they thought it was an actual CNN article and started emailing me with reasons justifying Bush's sudden change in policy. I played along with them for a little while and then revealed that the webpage was a fake by sending them this link...

The moral of this story is; if you don't like the real world, invent your own reality. It's easy! Just type up an article, throw in some HTML that you ripped off from CNN (I'm not sure why but whenever someone sees something on CNN they automatically assume it's true), post it to a webpage, and viola, your fantasy is now objectively true.

It is with a heavy heart that I post my yearly update. On December 9, 2006 the creator of The Green Lantern, Martin Nodell, passed away (article here). For more information about Martin Nodell's monumental contribution to mankind, read every Green Lantern comic ever written (they're worth the effort).
